Tim Monahan died peacefully surrounded by family and friends after a multi-year struggle with cancer. He leaves behind siblings Jay, Jim, Marty, Julie (Espinosa), Robin (Norberg) and Darin (Brooks) as well as 20 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Dr. Thomas and Terese Monahan, his older sister Marianne, and his cat, Budd.
Tim grew up the youngest of eight siblings in West Roxbury, Massachusetts. He graduated from Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood. Growing up, he was always curious about how things worked, and this natural talent for problem-solving led him to pursue a career in civil engineering. In 1988, Tim earned a BS in Civil Engineering from University of Lowell and embarked on a 35 year career as a professional water and wastewater engineer in Boston, San Diego, and San Francisco.
Tim’s professional legacy can be found all around his beloved San Francisco. The
relationships he had with his colleagues and the opportunity to collaborate on so many challenging projects were what mattered most to him.
Tim was a joyful man who loved life and life's experiences. He was an avid skier, marathon runner, and hiker. In his free time, Tim traveled widely, sometimes volunteering with the National Park Service or Remote Area Medical. He was a loving brother, uncle, and friend who always had time for the people he cared about. He leaves behind countless friends, baristas and bar tabs. A life well lived and a man loved by many.
Please join us for a Celebration of Tim’s Life from 11AM to 1PM on Saturday, April 29 at the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common St. Walpole, MA.
Another celebration of life will be held from 4 to 9PM on Friday, October 27 at Travis Marina in Sausalito, CA as we acknowledge Tim’s short, but adventure-filled, life. Be sure to bring your favorite Tim stories.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in memory of Timothy J. Monahan to support the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge, Remote Area Medical, or Water for People.
