Clifton K. Snuffer, Jr., age 81, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2023, at his home in Walpole, Massachusetts, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on December 21, 1941, he was the son of the late Clifton K. and Mary (Donato) Snuffer. He was raised in the City of Boston, where he graduated from Boston College High School. Upon his graduation, Cliff enlisted in the United States Navy Reserve, proudly serving his country.
While in the Navy Reserve, Cliff married his beloved wife, Joan Schwenderman, on March 10, 1962. The couple made their home in South Boston, where they welcomed their five children. Cliff had a long and fruitful career in the Electronics Industry starting as a Salesman and going on to start his own companies and later partnered with Selmark Associates, Inc. until he eventually retired from the business in 2000 but would often be called by industry professionals for his advice. While his home was in Walpole, Cliff looked forward to spending time at his vacation house on Lake Winnipesaukee in Moultonborough, New Hampshire. He enjoyed entertaining Family and Friends and loved cooking for the people in his company. Weekends there were often spent relaxing by the lake and going on drives to find unique antique stores with his late wife Joan. While Cliff’s calendar remained busy with career obligations and social events, he found time to return to his education, taking courses at the Rhode Island School of Design, earning his antique appraiser's certificate. With his new certificate in hand, Cliff was always on the lookout, whether home or away for art glass to add to his growing collection.
Throughout his life, Cliff was very active in local politics. RTM (36 Years) P5: 1982 – 1993, 1996, 1998 – 2001; P4: 2002 – 2011; P6: 2012; P2: 2013 – 2018, 2021 – 2022. Finance Committee 1982 – 1985. Cable Television Advisory Committee 1982 – 1985. Capital Budget Committee 1983 – 1986. Soccer Committee 1993 (Adviser). Isaac’s Land Study Committee 1995 – 1997. Growth Control Committee 1996. Select Board 2008 – 2011, 2013 – 2016. Other Town Projects included Purchase of Adams Farm, Building of new Council of Aging, as well as Conservation and Open Space Projects. Cliff gained a tremendous amount of respect and a wonderful following from his constituents through his written word as well often appearing in the Walpole Times, publishing short stories under the heading "Another Time."
Most of all, Cliff was fiercely devoted to those he loved, watching his family grow "All Because Two People Fell In Love." He cherished the precious moments he spent surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, especially when everyone gathered for his annual birthday celebration. The walls of his home are adorned with a mosaic of photos of his family and would often tell visitors how proud he was of everyone's accomplishments boastfully whenever anyone came by.
