Charles Joseph O'Donnell

Charles Joseph "Chuck" O'Donnell, age 53, of Walpole, MA passed away unexpectedly, on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.  Born in Boston, Massachusetts on December 27, 1968, he was the son of the late Charles Edward and Theresa L. (Auger) O'Donnell.  He was raised in the Roslindale area of Boston, where he found his love for baseball at a young age.  While he loved being in the city, Chuck found his happy place on the other side of the Cape Cod Canal on Mayflower Beach, spending summers by the ocean with his buddies.  Chuck brought his baseball skill set with him to Boston Latin Academy, graduating with the Class of 1987.  As a standout athlete, Chuck was noticed by the baseball coach at Northeastern University, where he continued his education, earning his bachelor’s degree through the co-op program in 1992.  Following his graduation, Chuck continued playing ball, joining the ranks of the Park League in West Roxbury.

While working in Northeastern's co-op program, Chuck spent countless hours with Parent McLaughlin Nangle, CPAs in Boston.  Once he had earned his degree, PMN asked him to join their company as a staff accountant.  Chuck went on to achieve his Certified Public Accountant status while working with PMN, remaining with the company through his move to Walpole, Massachusetts in 1997.  A year later, Chuck joined the team at Island Oasis in Walpole, taking the position of Controller.

While working at Island Oasis, Chuck met his wife to be, Andrea Scavuzzo.  He quickly won her over with his quick wit and generous heart.  Chuck and Andrea were married on September 21, 2002, at Saint Mary's Church in East Walpole, after purchasing their home in Walpole earlier that year.  Ten months later Chuck and Andrea welcomed their daughter, Kimberly Ann, and three years later, they welcomed their son, Adam Charles.  Being a father brought so much joy to Chuck, as he looked forward to binge watching shows and movies with Kim and loved playing video games with Adam.  Throughout his life, Chuck held onto his strong family values, enjoying family game nights, many trips to Disney World, eating at Chapin’s Bayside, and sharing family meals together on holidays.

As Chuck continued to build his career, he went on to spend four years with the Siegfried Group in their Boston office before being named CFO of Hans Kissle in Haverhill in 2008.  Chuck then took the CFO position with Superior Cake in Southbridge, Walpole Outdoors in Walpole and then the CFO position in 2019 with Bradford Soap in Warwick, Rhode Island.  In addition to his accounting career, Chuck was an active member of both the MSCPA and the AICPA.

Just prior to taking the position with Bradford Soap, Chuck enjoyed the summer of 2017 work free and appropriately referred to it as "The Summer of Chuck," culminating in the purchase of his Cape home in Dennis.  As he crossed the bridge over the canal, a weight was lifted off his shoulders, as he returned to his happy place, Mayflower Beach.  His summer was full of travel adventures with his family and rounds of golf with his friends.

Chuck's love for sports did not end with his baseball days, as he continued playing softball with his buddies for the Knights of Columbus and SNS, to name a couple.  As a Boston boy at heart, Chuck could be found in his seats at Fenway Park or Gillette Stadium cheering for his favorite hometown teams, the Red Sox and Patriots.  As an avid golfer, he was a member of the Blue Hill Country Club, finding any reason to hit the links.  His love for golf meshed perfectly with his generosity, as he hosted the C.O.D. Charity Golf Tournament for more than 20 years at the George Wright Golf Course in Hyde Park.  Following the tournament, as a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in West Roxbury, everyone was invited to the hall to enjoy a banquet together.  Over the course of twenty-three years, his efforts helped raise more than $240,000 for the 9 North Wing of Children's Hospital in Boston, for which he was extremely proud.

Chuck will be remembered as a man with a huge heart, who could light up a room with his humor and conversation.  There was never a place that he ventured to that he didn't know someone, from his baseball days as a kid, his time with the Knights of Columbus and Elks, his workplaces or his neighbors in Walpole and Dennis.  To know Chuck was to love him, just as he loved everyone in his life.
